Security in all parts of the country is essential for effective governance, private sector development, economic growth, poverty reduction and the safeguarding of individual liberty. The strategic objective under this pillar is to ensure the security of state, persons and property through the implementation of an integrated and sustainable defence, security and law and order policy.
Government priorities under this pillar is to increase the capability of the security institutions, ensure comprehensive, complimentary and integrated efforts, and progressive transfer of security responsibilities from international partners to Afghan forces and institutions.
The Sector ensures these policies and priorities are adequately funded within the allocated fiscal ceiling, and the allocated funds are executed according to the public finance management laws and regulations.
The Sector is responsible for the following line ministries/budgetary units:
Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Directorate of National Security and the Presidential Protective Service.
