The Sector’s goal is to improve the management and accountability of public expenditures so as to increase the effective utilization of resources through the national budget. The Government also aims to create the conditions in which a dynamic and competitive private sector can flourish, contributing to economic growth, employment creation and poverty reduction.
It is the fourth sector by size, which accounts for 6% of the total development budget and 4.9% of the total operating budget. In fiscal year 1390, the Sector executed 58% of its development budget.
The Sector ensures the national priorities and policies are adequately funded within the allocated fiscal ceiling, and the allocated funds are executed according to the public finance management laws and regulations.
The Sector is responsible for the following line ministries/budgetary units:
Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Ministry of Economy, Office of Audit and Control, Central Statistic Office, Afghanistan National Standard Authority, MISFA and Afghanistan Investment & Supporting Agency.
